Two events are just independent if the occurrence (or non-occurence) of one event doesn’t affect the probability of the other event.
On the other hand, conditional independence is a concept that takes into account the occurrence or non-occurrence of a third event. Two events and are conditionally independent given an event if the probability of both and happening together () remains the same wether or not the event occurs.
